For the batter:
1 cup steel cut oats (finely ground in food processor)
1/2 cup rava
1/2 cup brown rice flour
1/2 cup grated carrots
1/2 cup finely sliced onions
Finely chopped Cilantro leaves
Salt to taste
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp baking powder
1” ginger sliced
2-3 green chillies sliced or 1 tsp chilli powder
Pinch of asofetida
1/4 tsp turmeric (optional)
Juice from 1 lime
Add about 1 cup water to the batter ingredients (add more if its too thick, needs to be pourable into the appe pan) and let sit for 30 minutes
Load appam/appe pan and cook covered on low heat for 10 minutes
Turn the appams over and cook covered for 5-10 more minutes
Serve with tomato chutney
